Normanton Church stands on a peninsula found on the southern shore on Rutland Water. Peter Redhead wedding photography works throughout Rutland. Over recent years I’ve been fortunate to have photographed a number of weddings at Normanton Church and have also used this iconic landmark as the location for bride and groom photo sessions.
One more surprise in store
Besides standing out into the water the Church itself has one more surprise in store, due to its construction there is one entrance and the to hold the wedding ceremony at either the North or South facing ends. Whilst there is no right or wrong way, many brides prefer to be married at the domed Southern end of the church. In turn this has serious implications to the planning, preparation on wedding day and arrival; as the bride must wait out of sight inside Normanton Churches hidden room. Groom and wedding guests must then arrive afterwards and be seated before the bride can then make her way down the aisle.
Normanton Church is a perfect wedding ceremony venue in Rutland because of its close proximity to some of Rutland’s premier wedding venues such as Normaton Park Hotel, Barnsdale Hall Hotel, Greetham Valley and Barnsdale Lodge.
The church was re-sited when the village of Normanton was flooded to make way what is now Rutland Water. As far as civil ceremony wedding venues go this has to be one of the more aesthetically pleasing, no matter what time of year the reservoir and surrounding Rutland landscape ensure a wonderful backdrop and setting are always on hand to accompany the wedding day.
